THE CANADIAN SCHOOL OF LEBANESE DANCE
The Canadian School of Lebanese Dance (CSLD) was founded in Ottawa in 1993 with a mandate to provide training in Lebanese dance (dabké) and baladi to students of all ages. The School teaches many styles of Lebanese dance and provides a learning environment that promotes enjoyment, artistic growth and personal development.
Classes in dabké are offered to adults and children between the ages of 8 and 16. Baladi and jazz classes are available to adults only and are scheduled in blocks of ten weeks during winter and fall semesters.
In 2003, the CSLD celebrates 10 years of love for music and movement and invites everyone to take part in a special year of dance activities and workshops. Whether you're 8 or 80, the School has something for you, so join us for a season celebration that promises to be filled with jumps, turns and pirouettes for the young and young at heart.
Apprenticeship Program
Advanced level students who have successfully completed 6 years of dance training at the School can choose to continue their dance training under the Apprenticeship Program. The Program is designed to provide a positive environment for a possible transition from a structured curriculum in Lebanese dance to intense training and performance with the Al-Arz Lebanese Dance Group.
Summer Arts Camp
The CSLD hosts a three-day summer arts camp for children between the ages of 8 and 14. You don't have to be a student of the School to join but have to be prepared to join in sports and arts activities that are intended to build team spirit, instill individual confidence and encourage creativity through the performance of choreographies and theatre skits created and directed by camp participants.
